Hamby is an unincorporated community on State Highway 351, about five miles east of Abilene. It grew up around oil and cotton. The original name was Corners, since it sat near where Taylor, Jones, Callahan and Shackelford counties meet, and it was renamed in 1902 for its first postmaster, Hamby Richardson.
Most homes out here are on rural lots. That means more open ground, more outbuildings and more chances for pests to move in from the fields.
