Potosi sits about nine miles south of Abilene along FM 1750. The Pollard family settled there in the 1870s, and in 1893 R. A. Pollard named the post office after San Luis Potosà in Mexico. The place almost disappeared by the 1950s, then grew quickly from the late 1980s on. The 2020 census counted 3,947 people. Kids go to Wylie ISD.
If you're on a bigger lot in Potosi, you've got more open ground around the house, and more places for pests to live close by: brush, rock piles, sheds and pastures.

Country lots, country pests
Scorpions hide under boards, rocks and debris during the day, and Texas A&M says they climb walls and trees and often end up in attics. On a bigger lot there's more of that cover. Clear it back from the house and trim limbs off the roof. See scorpion control.
Shops and barns bring mice, especially where feed or seed is stored. And wasps love the eaves of outbuildings. See rodent control and wasp removal.
- Feed in metal cans with lids
- Lumber and junk piles away from the house
- Limbs trimmed off the roof
