How to Keep Scorpions Out of Your House
Call Abilene Pest Control

- A licensed local company quotes the job in person
Texas A&M AgriLife says scorpions are hard to control with insecticides alone, and that changing the area around the house comes first. Here's what that looks like on an Abilene lot.
Clean up around the house
AgriLife says to remove trash, logs, boards, stones, bricks and other objects from around the structure. Those are daytime hiding spots. Rock borders against the foundation, stacked firewood and leftover lumber all count.
- Move firewood away from the walls and off the ground
- Pull rock and brick borders back from the slab
- Clear leaf litter and junk piles
- Keep grass trimmed along the foundation
Seal the house
AgriLife recommends sealant around roof eaves, pipes and any cracks into the structure, plus weatherstripping on loose doors and windows. Add door sweeps on exterior and garage doors, and check that window screens fit tight.
Don't forget the attic. Scorpions are often found there, and gaps at the eaves and around vents let them in.

Cut off the roof route
AgriLife notes that tree branches can give scorpions a path to the roof. Trim limbs back so they don't touch the house or hang over it.
Less food
Scorpions eat other bugs. Fewer crickets and roaches around the house means less reason for scorpions to hang around. Swap porch bulbs for yellow ones in cricket season and fix outdoor leaks that draw roaches. When the checklist isn't enough, see scorpion control.
